📘 Glossary: Airsoft, Paintball, Airguns, Tactical Gear & Ammo

  • FPS: Feet per second — measurement of how fast a projectile leaves the barrel.
  • Joule: A unit of energy used to rate the power of airsoft and airguns.
  • Hop-Up: Mechanism that applies backspin to BBs to increase range.
  • CO2: Gas used in airguns and paintball markers as a power source.
  • Green Gas: Propane-based gas used in many airsoft pistols and rifles.
  • HPA: High-Pressure Air — used in paintball and some airsoft setups.
  • Air Tank: Stores compressed air or CO2 for use in guns.
  • BBs (Plastic): 6mm rounds used in airsoft guns.
  • BBs (Metal): Steel rounds used in BB guns.
  • Pellets: Lead or alloy ammo used in air rifles, shaped for precision.
  • Paintballs: Gel-filled projectiles used in paintball markers.
  • Marker: Another term for a paintball gun.
  • AEG: Automatic Electric Gun powered by batteries.
  • GBB: Gas Blowback — airsoft gun with recoil-like action.
  • Spring-Powered: Manual cocking gun mechanism.
  • Semi-Auto: Fires once per trigger pull.
  • Full-Auto: Fires continuously while trigger is held.
  • Blowback: Simulated recoil action in gas-powered guns.
  • Chronograph: Measures FPS to ensure safety at fields.
  • Tracer Unit: Lights up special tracer BBs for night games.
  • Hi-Cap / Mid-Cap / Low-Cap: Magazine capacities for BB storage.
  • Speedloader: Fills magazines quickly with BBs or pellets.
  • QD Sling Mount: Quick-detach sling connection point.
  • Plate Carrier: Tactical vest used to carry gear and protection.
  • MOLLE: Modular webbing system for attaching gear and pouches.
  • Tactical Vest: Protective gear with utility pouches.
  • Shemagh: Scarf used for neck and face protection.
  • Mesh Mask: Steel mesh mask for lower face protection in airsoft.
  • Eye Pro: Essential eye protection in all games.

🔧 Setup, Testing & Maintenance Tips

  • Always chronograph your gun before play to ensure field-legal FPS.
  • Use appropriate weight BBs or pellets for your specific gun type.
  • Clean barrels regularly to maintain accuracy and prevent jamming.
  • Lubricate gas mags and O-rings to prevent leaks or freezing.
  • Store your airguns unloaded, in a safe and dry location.
  • Recharge HPA tanks only with approved fill stations and gauges.
